What are Profile Classes?
In the UK, we have business electricity profile classes, also known as electricity supply profiles. These are used to categorise different types of electricity consumers based on their energy usage patterns.
Profile classes help electricity suppliers and network operators understand the energy requirements of different businesses and allocate appropriate tariffs and infrastructure.
Here are the commonly used business electricity profile classes in the UK:
| 00 | Half-Hourly | For businesses with high energy demand which require electricity meters that record energy consumption on a half-hourly basis. These businesses usually have a maximum demand level exceeding 100kW. |
| 01 | Domestic Unrestricted | For small businesses with low energy consumption patterns similar to domestic households. |
| 02 | Domestic Economy 7 | For businesses that use Economy 7 tariffs, which provide cheaper electricity during off-peak hours. |
| 03 | Non-Domestic Unrestricted | For small to medium-sized businesses with relatively stable energy usage throughout the day. |
| 04 | Non-Domestic Economy 7 | For businesses using Economy 7 tariffs. This is similar to Profile Class 02. |
| 05 | Max Demand | For businesses with higher energy consumption or demand, typically with maximum demand levels exceeding 100kW. |
| 06 | Max Demand | For businesses with higher energy consumption or demand, typically with maximum demand levels exceeding 100kW. |
| 07 | Max Demand | For businesses with higher energy consumption or demand, typically with maximum demand levels exceeding 100kW. |
| 08 | Max Demand | For businesses with higher energy consumption or demand, typically with maximum demand levels exceeding 100kW. |
It’s important to note that these profile classes may vary slightly depending on the electricity supplier or network operator. The categorisation helps determine the applicable tariffs, metering requirements, and other aspects of electricity supply for each business category.
Where can I find my Business Electricity Profile Class?
To find your business electricity profile class, you can follow these steps:
- Contact your electricity supplier: The easiest way to determine your profile class is by contacting your current electricity supplier. They have access to your energy consumption data and can provide you with the relevant information. They may check the ECEOS database on your behalf. The Electricity Central Online Enquiry Service (ECOES) is a central industry database in the UK that provides information about electricity supply points. The equivalent database for gas is called XOSERVE.
- Check your electricity bill: Your profile class may be listed on your electricity bill. Look for any specific codes or identifiers that indicate your profile class. It might be labeled as “Profile Class” or “PC” followed by a number.
- Consult your meter or meter operator: Your electricity meter or meter operator may have information about your profile class. Check the meter itself or contact the company responsible for maintaining your meter.
